For years I have enjoyed doing what I passionately love and enjoy, for the past several years I have fallen in love with my new passion which is teaching the art of photography to others.
Taking beautiful pictures is not only a great thing to know but also it can turn in to a much more serious career as it did for me
When I started photography almost 30 years ago, I had no idea that’s what I was going to do for the rest of my life, all I had was a nikon f3 and a Nikon 50 mm 1.4 lens and a gorgeous girl friend that let me take her picture all the time, after a while we had so much fun doing it that we spent most of our free time shooting.
A few short months later she was recruited by Elite after I submitted her pictures to them, and the rest is history, in a less than a year I was shooting for all the top agencies and modeling schools and local businesses making enough money to put me and my GF at the time through college
Till this date I don’t even know how 27 years went by so quickly, I guess it’s true when they say ” Time flies when you are having fun”  and truly I have had a blast! Traveled the world doing what I love, and enjoying every second of it, and now I am blessed with the experience and the knowledge that can help many more like me to reach their dreams
My photography workshops are not like any other photography classes or photography lessons you have seen or experienced, I personally create and manage a set of very specific methods and techniques that helps each individual to learn some of the trade secrets that took me years to learn in a matter of  hours or days, and I guess that’s what sets my photography workshops apart from others.
It does not matter if you are a professional photographer or just got started, my private one on one Photography Classes are guaranteed to give you the push and support needed to get you on your feet and well on your way to become independently creative
This is one of my favorite fashion headshots of Tanya, we actually did not plan for this shot at all, as she was getting her hair cut I happened to have my camera handy and a small soft box was used to get the soft defused lighting
Fashion photography can sometimes be so simple and having a top fashion model is always helpful to capture beautful images that can make a life time impression

NEW YORK – NY – NYC – lOS ANGELES – LA – LONDON UK
The Guess ad campaign Editorials shot by Shaun Alexander, fashion photographer , ranked the most successful fashion editorial shoot by many fashion experts and magazine editors for 2012 . Shaun conforms lighting to the type of ad, the background, the model’s features, and the product. He gives what the ad needs, resulting to a dramatic, yet high end and glamorous advertisement such as of Guess.
Having great taste and creativity, Shaun Alexander gives Guess an ad campaign that captivates the rand’s total look- easygoing, however elegant and expensive. There has never been a cheap-looking Shaun Alexander photo ever, and neither a Guess ad. This shows that the topadvertising photographer has not only lived up to adding another item to the legacy of ad portraits for the company of the Marciano brothers. He was able to successfully embody the Guess spirit in his work and at the same time apply his own style into it.
In New York advertising photography, the Ad campaigns must consist of a photographer who directs the shoot according to how the product or service should be presented. He lets the model do her job, but makes sure he or she gets it right and makes a pretty picture.
Advertising photography demands perfection since its purpose is for the endorsement of a company’s product or service. Cecil ads by Shaun alexander show not only the brand’s youthful side, but the freshness of their hippest products that make trends more buyable and wearable. For Laqua, he again lends his expertise, giving the brand strong, artistic, couture photo ads that sell.
If you observe all of his works, it would be clear to see that it is his remarkable lighting that does the magic. He just doesn’t let light fall on any part of the subject. His photos radiate with light in the right places and touches the viewer the first time their eyes get caught with all of it. Shaun’s experience as an advertising photographer has earned him more projects. These include cosmetic campaigns, editorial campaigns and promotions for fashion designers, fashion magazines, advertising companies, fashion editorials, and celebrities.

No matter how gorgeous the makeup looks, it is never noticed in photos if the lighting is impaired. Once again, this highly regarded photography skill is mentioned, dragging along the name of world famous fashion photographer Shaun Alexander for his spectacular lighting techniques. Color is important, and he has the talent in letting color and light unite, turning pictures into the most smashing portraits you’d ever see.
Only the best photographers can capture the beauty of each atmosphere, body, person or object. The secret is lighting, according to Shaun Alexander. He takes amazing photographs like no other. With the mastery of photography lighting, he is able to produce flawless candid shots especially the most memorable momentum at the right timing.
Lighting is yet a skill to improve for amateur photographers, but for Shaun Alexander, he has perfectly mastered it. For perfect photography lighting to work, the artist is gifted with an ability to see what would turn images into bestsellers. Where light strikes and does not is similar to considering which part of the subject must be shaded or left alone in sketching. Shaun is quite cautious about his lighting techniques as it is his secret to taking great photographs. He shares this to aspiring photographers throughout the globe.
Those who have no idea that it is lighting that gives photography a spark are likely to ogle and admire the colors, the pose, or how the model looks. Yet they fail to see what’s utterly visible at the moment, what exactly makes the picture as immaculate as it appears to be. It is no other than the light that falls on specific angles. Shaun literally gives light through lighting techniques and he also gives enlightenment with his groundbreaking portfolio by showing how lighting can make a difference in a range of photographs that people are destined to see.
In every picture, Shaun brings lighting to perfection. It took him places in more than twenty-seven years of experience as it does up today. Just take time to marvel at his portfolio and you’ll discover a separate art in photography that Shaun Alexander is known for- his own.

You want to know the truth about shooting fashion shows? Honestly, I don’t shoot them. But I have in the past, especially when I was first started my career as a photographer. The thing is that if you are a fashion photographer, this is going to come up sooner or later and you will be asked as some point to either attend a fashion show or shoot them, or many times you may just be asked by your favorite designer clients or friends to do them a big favor, Or you may really want to head in that direction with your career. But after so many years, I just realized that shooting fashions shows are tedious and very demeaning. Standing around with a bunch of  photographers trying to get the same exact shot as the guy standing next to you is not very creative or exciting, almost like the “paparazzi” photographers
I much rather be sitting in the front row where a respectable fashion photographer should be sitting to enjoy a good view of the latest designs and gorgeous top models  strutting down the runway.
I LOVE fashion design and Fashion shows , but not shooting them!
Not many people know that  I was originally interested and I still am to become a fashion designer before I fell in love with photography. So for me, watching the show is way more fun than shooting it. BUT……..That’s just me! If you are planning on shooting a fashion show in the near future, here’s a few tips and links to some very useful posts and sites on how to go about it…
1.   Cover your behind! Bring an extra camera body for two reasons: A. So you can mount two different lenses to get two different shots of the same outfit. B. Murphy’s Law: if your primary camera for whatever reason on Earth decides not to work at the exact minute the show starts, you can switch to your back up with very minimal stressing out.
2.  Depending on where you’re going to be standing, you’ll want to use a zoom lens with a range from between 24mm to 200mm. This is going to be a rare moment when I am actually going to advise using zoom lenses. They’re just more accommodating for this kind of shoot. Usually they place photographers at the end of the runway. You’ll want to get a full length shot of the model, a 3/4 shot, possibly a turning shot or back shot and hopefully a nice face shot, especially if the model’s wearing some great jewelry pieces or accessories.
3.  Bring a mono-pod. Save your arm. You can also use it as a weapon if one of those other aforementioned photographers gets out of hand. Seriously, I’ve seen it happen. I am only joking, but I’ve seen photographers go at it with their mono-pods. Uh….in my opinion, a fashion show is not really that important to get into a blood bath over.
4. Â Make sure you have one of those on-camera flashes. With back up batteries. You can never count on their lighting set up.
5. Â Bring plenty of memory cards. They fill up fast!
6. Â Why not! Go ahead and shoot in auto-focus. I would.
I found this post on DPS had some really useful tips on shooting fashion shows:
Fashion shows DO have a lot of energy. The music is loud and usually upbeat, the models are fun to watch, the clothes are usually more theatrical and dramatic. Here’s a video
Spring/Summer  2012 Chanel Show
They did things a little different at this show but you can jump on to style.com’s site and check out any number of other designer shows. Personally, I just happen to enjoy watching the shows more than shooting them. But again, that’s just me. To each his own and that’s what makes the world go around! If you have had some experience in shooting runways shows, leave a comment for the other readers. Your input is really welcomed!
New York – Capital city of fashion , where top Fashion photographers and Fashion designers come together in order to shape our society for centuries.
When it comes to fashion and style, non play more important role than the ones determining who wears what!
Fashion designers expressions captured by elaborate fashion campaigns and fed to the mass, which in most cases are recycled ideas of our past translated for the future.
Top fashion photographers have the ability to enhance those ideas by their creative interpretation, some with much more colorful density than others, each telling a story through their lens.
Personally I prefer the black and white photography over color photography, mainly because I prefer the viewer coloring the image in their own mind without anyone’s influence of the colors and the surroundings, allowing them to focus more on the style, photography and the feelings expressed by the photographer.
Many photographers wonder what is the best lighting for beauty or fashion photography? Indoors or outdoors?
Strobes or continuous, incandescent or Fluorescent and I always say it makes no difference what type of lights is available to you as long as you know what to do with it.
In my 30+ years of professional life as a fashion photographer I have tried almost every possible lighting scenarios you can imagine, from a 10 dollar home depot halogen light to a $10.000 studio lights and I must say that I have managed to make some of the most interesting images with the cheapest lights
I still prefer the good old natural light over anything, no other lights can even come close to the most beautiful colors created by mother nature
Especially right before the sunset, or as we photographers call is the Magic hour!
No matter what type of light is going to light up your subject, the most crucial piece to a fantastic photography is your GLASS, by that I mean your lenses, and I have a few favorites, like my fixed 85mm 1.4 or even the 50mm 1.1 which would allow me to shoot in almost any lighting situation
Perhaps it is a good idea to have a small tripod with you at all times if you are planning to shoot at a low shutter and a higher aperture setting
I normally don’t like to go any lower than 1/60th of a second if I am shooting a live subject, but I also like longer exposure for interiors with available indoor lights like shooting inside a mall, or a building.
As you know the longer the exposure the crisper and more defined your none moving subjects going to be, but all of your moving subjects become either blurry, or if the exposure is long enough they will completely disappear from your shots.
The possibilities are endless once you get a better grasp of your lighting as well as your camera’s setting.
Film or digital, photography and photographers are only as good as their imaginations.
Photography has always been my passion and the biggest part of my life, and if anyone asked me for a few pointers, I’d say to them
1-Expand your horizons by looking at great master photographers work 2-Shoot something every day 3-Never settle for mediocre shots 4-Create a great team 5-Think outside of the box 6-Own a few great lenses 7-Make images that you will be proud of 8-Create your own style 9-Be open to challenges 10-And finally, Understand your blacks, whites and mid-tones
and if you do that, you should be in a great shape and have some amazing images
and if you still have more questions, I would be happy to answer them , just write me at shaun@zoomonme.com
