He does his own make-up, hair and styling for his shoots and makes you feel like the super model that you know you are. My experience with Shaun Alexander

I recently finished a 3-day workshop with Shaun Alexander. I am an amateur photographer trying to find direction and this learning experience was like none other.
First and foremost, I have to say that Shaun was very down to earth and easy to get along with, beginning from the first time we spoke over the phone. He took the time to get to know me and where I was on my path of photography. Not only was it apparent he was a professional, but I really felt his passion for fashion photography.
The workshop was intense! But how else could I get 30 years of experience in 3 days? It was exactly what I was looking for and had expected. His techniques, posing, lighting, and comprehension of the art that is photography were impressive.
In order avoid writing a short story, which I could, I will say this.  As an amateur photographer I was looking for direction, technique, and an understanding of the business and art of photography. I received all these things and so much more. I came back to Dallas more excited than ever to apply everything I learned. Thank you again Shaun. Your workshop was an incredible experience for me.
And for anyone considering a workshop with Shaun, I say go for it; but only if you serious about taking your photography to the next level.

I was a very amateur photographer when I first contacted Shaun. Basically I had a pro level camera that I kept it in auto all the time. However I was starting to get work for my photography…but my big secret was that I had know idea how to work my camera or how I was getting these “great” shots that people were hiring me for. I felt like I owed it to not only myself but also to my clients to actually KNOW what I was doing. After a lot of research for photography classes and workshops around the area, I came across Shaun Alexander. I was completely blown away by his work. It was exactly what I would be shooting if I knew how to work my camera and use photoshop. I emailed Shaun my portfolio and he immediately called me and said “whats your background”…I sheepishly replied “um modeling, acting and directing music videos”. He was shocked that I was taking these pictures without any prior experience at all. We worked out a deal and by the next week I was in a private workshop with him. The model he hired for the work shop was top notch and professional (I would know because I was a model for 8 years). The first thing he said to me was put your shutter at 200 and your F-Stop at 16. I just stared at him blankly because I had absolutely no idea how to do either of those things…let alone what they even were. But with Shaun’s relaxed and nurturing nature he explained everything patiently and in a way I could understand and by the end of the day I was shooting like a pro and lighting like a pro. The next day we sat down and he showed me the ropes on photoshop…I always thought of photoshop as this impossible monster until I sat down with Shaun and he simplified all of it. Again by the end of the day I was editing my own pics on photoshop. My experience with Shaun was not only a huge step in my career as a photographer but also a huge self esteem booster. Knowledge is power and I gained a lot of that power and knowledge for photography through Shaun.

I have been  shooting for many years now in many different areas. I started my career as an industrial scientific photographer, then on to portraits and weddings and now commercial photography with products and models with products, a different world.
I recently finished  a three day workshop with Shaun in LA, it was great.
He is certainly an artist in every way. He can communicate his “vision” to all the important players in a way that makes the images all come together. It was a great education just seeing the whole process in action.
I would recommend Shauns workshops for veteran photographers and people new to the field.
Not only is Shaun a great photographer, he is also a great person with tons of good artistic energy.
I learned a lot and am excited to start putting it all into action!
